CB got his start in radio at the tender young age of 15. While a sophomore at Capital High School he started at a 500 watt daytime only AM Jazz/Classical station. By his senior year he was working fulltime at a 50-thousand watt FM country station. After graduating from Capital, he wandered the country and the dial for a couple of years before landing at KGEM & J105 in the summer of 1984…while both stations were blazing “Hit Country” over Southwest Idaho’s airwaves! That was the last time CB ever worked at a country music radio station!
On October 15, 1985, J105 debuted a long needed Rock format and CB was right there working in the middle of the day. A few months later, he started working the overnight shift, and then eventually evenings. This “stint” at J105 lasted until August of 1991 when the “then” management had issues with the length of CB’s hair, his tattoos and the fact he played Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” on the air!!!
CB then went to work at a Top 40 radio station here in Boise for a few years (where he quickly became the Music Director and Assistant Program Director.) A new Rock radio opportunity came up, so he jumped at the chance to be the Assistant Program Director/Music Director and work afternoons at KARO-FM. Then some meddling corporate types decided that Top 40 was the way to go and he was “outta there”!!! CB was then hired by Journal Broadcast Group to come back to work a new “stint” at J105. He left in June 2000 to work in the wonderful world of television (at our sister station KIVI-TV). But radio never left his blood…and he came back to J105 in the Fall of 2002 to work weekends, afternoons, and then to produce a morning show on another of our Journal stations and again do weekend and fill in shifts and then afternoons again in a circular, rhythm-of-life sort of way.
